The last echelon carrying the materiel of Russia's former 50th military base stationed in Gudauta has left Abkhazia /a self-proclaimed republic in Georgia/. Thus, as commander of the collective peace-keeping forces Mayor General Nikolai Sidorychev said, Russia has fully fulfilled the Istanbul agreements on withdrawing its military base from Abkhazia. According to the general, the withdrawal was crammed with certain difficulties. In particular, the local residents lined up on the rails as a human shield in an attempt to prevent the pullout. It took the Abkhaz leadership and us a lot of effort to convince the local residents of the need for Russia to fulfil its international obligations and agreements on the withdrawal, stressed the peace-keeping commander. In his words, only collective peace-keeping forces have remained on Abkhazian territory to fulfil their tasks under the Mandate of the Council of the CIS Heads of State.
