Russia To Retain Nuclear Deterrence Potential For 15-20 Years To Come

Russia will retain its nuclear deterrence potential for the next 15-20 years, according to Andrey Dyakov, director of the Institute for Disarmament, Energy, and Ecology, affiliated to the Moscow Physical-Technological Institute. Warhead cuts down to 1,500 suggested lately by Russia is more than enough, Dyakov said at a press conference Monday. He also mentioned that, according to American experts, if even one warhead hit the US, the damage would be fatal. According to Dyakov, nuclear deterrence potential remains a feasible factor in the Russia-US relations. The expert thinks that the current task is to transform this factor and prevent it from moving to the foreground of the bilateral relations.
