NATO eastward expansion will undermine Russia's national security, Vice Admiral Valentin Kuznetsov, head of the International-Treaty Department of the International Military Cooperation Administration under the Russian Defence Ministry, told journalists on Wednesday. In his words, Russia's stance on NATO expansion has not changed. We believe that NATO expansion cannot help ensure security in Europe, he stressed. The military official went on that the security system incorporated numerous departments and they should wishfully be committed to maintaining stability in Europe. The European security system requires joint efforts of the OSCE, NATO, and EU, he said. Vice Admiral Kuznetsov attended an international conference on strategic stability issues, which began Wednesday in the Academy of Russia's General Staff.
