Top Customs Officials Charged For Swindling

Head of the customs inspection department of the State Customs Committee (SCC) Aleksander Volkov and first deputy head of the customs investigations department of the SCC Marat Faizulin are facing charges amounting to 2.5 million dollars worth of damage done to several trade companies. Sources in the department for information and public relations of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office say that Volkov and Faizulin have been discovered to viciously abuse their authority as state officials, causing violation of rights and legal interests of companies. Without any legal grounds, the two SCC officials demanded paying fictitious debts from several trade complexes, "which caused severe consequences in the form of big losses," as the sources in the Prosecutor's Office remark. The two men are charged for abusing authority and banned from travel. The charges go as a part of a criminal case of abuse in the State Customs Committee.
