Dmitry Litvinovich: Palestine to become a reservation

The list of prospective targets of the US anti-terrorist operations may considerably increase soon. The USA plans to introduce the territory controlled by the Palestinian national administration to the “black list” very soon.

US Vice-President Richard Cheney said during an inverview pm Sunday with NBC that the Bush administration aims not only to struggle with the number one terrorist, but the whole “global terrorist network” created by bin Laden in 65-70 countries. The vice-president said all efforts of the USA are directed against this network.

Several days before the interview, it was reported in the US media that several Al Qaeda militants had penetrated the territory of the Palestinian national administration. It was said that, having lost the war with the USA in Afghanistan, the militants decided to continue it in the Middle East. Right after this, strict criticism towards Arafat followed. Yasser Arafat lost the support of the West, but the East has not decided yet how to help him.

Israeli President Moshe Katzav has presented an unusual way for the settlement of the problem of terrorism in the Middle East. He suggests building a tall wall around the territory controlled by the Palestinian national administration. It is to be a kind of Great China Wall in the Middle East. The Arabs are expected to live behind the wall like Indians on a reservation.

The idea does not seem to be new: last year, the central ideologist of Russia’s Union of Right-Wing Forces, Boris Nemtsov, suggested creating such a wall for the Chechens.
