Russian President On The Importance Of Constitution Day

Russians annually mark the Day of Constitution as a national holiday not only out of respect to the country's fundamental document but also out of respect to themselves, Russian president Vladimir Putin said Wednesday. Speaking at the State Kremlin Palace on the Day of Constitution, the head of state stressed that in 1993 when the current Constitution was adopted, the Russia people voted for a law-based state, democracy and freedom, and against the division of the Federation, weak statehood and inefficient economy. In essence, Putin said, on December 12, 1993 we were choosing Russia's future. Observance of constitutional principles and norms has largely expanded the area of law appliance in the country and opened the way towards a civil society, said the president. Besides, he noted, this encouraged the development of constitutional justice and a new court system, and consolidated he Federation.
