Presidential Aide: Moscow Will React Calmly To Us Abm Treaty Withdrawal

Russian presidential aide Sergei Yastrzhembsky has announced that Russia will react calmly to the USA's possible unilateral withdrawal from the 1972 ABM Treaty. The Russian side is certain, he said, that its nuclear missile potential is sufficient to deter any threats in relation to Russia. The aide said that the American's argument for abrogating the 1972 Treaty was "unconvincing." While speaking live on the Echo of Moscow radio station, Yastrzhembsky said that the US was motivated by "economic interests", as American companies stood to gain multi-billion dollar orders.
