Russian President's Aide Discusses Information Cooperation In Dushanbe

Russian President's Aide Sergei Yastrzhembsky is sure that Tajikistan is playing an important role in the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan. "Due to Russian-Tajik cooperation with the Northern Alliance, the legal Afghan government won its battle against the Taliban," Yastrzhembsky said following the meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov on Tuesday. According to the Russian President's Aide, his trip to Tajikistan within the framework of the agreement between the two presidents concerns Russian-Tajik cooperation in information sphere. Yastrzhembsky and Rakhmonov discussed the preservation of Russian TV channels in the Tajik information space. Moscow believes that "it meets the interests of both countries and the Tajik people who like Russian TV programmes and are used to them," Yastrzhembsky stressed. In addition, they discussed the restoration of the retransmitter in Kolkhozabad in order to broadcast Russian programmes in Afghanistan, Yastrzhembsky said.
