Tourism, Culture To Be One Of Main Trends In Relations Between Russia And Africa's South

Tourism and culture may soon become one of the main trends in the development of multilateral relations between Russia and Africa's south. Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will visit Angola, Namibia and the Republic of South Africa on December 12-18. He is expected to focus on these issues during his visit. Russia and the Republic of South Africa are likely to sign a programme of cultural cooperation for 2002-2004. The programme includes, for instance, a tour of the world famous Igor Moiseyev dance company in the Republic of South Africa in 2002. If the project is a success we can hold the Days or even Weeks of the Russian culture in the Republic of South Africa, Levon Bakunts, the Kolizei general producer and one of the tour's organisers, told RIA Novosti. It is symbolic that some days before Ivanov's visit Moscow hosted the presentation of the first joint tourist programme developed by the Russian-South-African tourism association established in August 2001 and uniting more than ten Russian tourist companies. The new association issues a magazine "Unknown South Africa" which has organised a contest "Draw Your Africa!" The results of the contest will be announced in March 2002. Zambian and Namibian Ambassadors to Russia Professor Lyson P. Tembo and Marten Kapewasha who attended the presentation told RIA Novosti that Russian tourists' trips to South Africa could give a necessary impulse to various spheres of Russian-African relations.
