On Saturday the press service of the Russian President reported to RIA Novosti that Vladimir Putin signed a decree to appoint Ziyavdi Zaurbekov chairman of the Chechen Supreme court for 6 years.
A special RIA Novosti correspondent in Grozny reports that Ziyavdi Zaurbekov enjoys authority among Chechen judges.
Zaurbekov graduated from the department of law of Vilnius University.
He had been working virtually all his life in Chechnya, starting from 1959. In 1963-1964 he worked in Dagestan (a republic neighboring Chechnya). For three years he served in the Soviet Army.
Upon graduation from the university Zaurbekov worked as an assistant to prosecutor, investigator, prosecutor of the prosecutor's office of the Chechen and Ingush Autonomous Soviet Republic.
In 1978-1992 he was a judge at the Supreme Court of the Chechen and Ingush Autonomous Soviet Republic.
From 2000 - acting chairman of the Chechen Supreme court.
Ziyavdi Zaurbekov directly participated in the restoration of the judicial system in the Chechen republic.
