Swedish Media Group MTG Intends to 'Conquer' Russia and Baltic States

Swedish media giant MTG intends to conquer the markets in Russia and the Baltic states. As MTG President Hans-Holger Albrecht told journalists, subscription TV channel TV 1000 will soon be available in many former Soviet states. He said that there is a great potential in Eastern Europe as about 40 million households are willing to pay for this movie channel. MTG recently signed agreements with cable television operators in three of the Baltic states as well as Russia, Belarus, Moldova and Georgia. This agreement will make the channel available in 250 thousand households in these countries.

Subscription fees for TV 1000 will only be about USD 2 a month, significantly lower than they are in Scandinavia. Thanks to the low price and the wide choice of movies that will be broadcast on this channel, the MTG management is hoping to raise the number of subscribers in Russia by 100-150 thousand over the next six months.
