Vladimir Putin Stated That a Start to a New Stage of Russian-Bulgarian Relations is Being Given Today

A start to a new stage of Russian-Bulgarian relations is being given today, president of Russia Vladimir Putin stated in Sofia on Sunday at a meeting with chairman of the National Assembly (parliament) of Bulgaria Ognyan Gerdzhikov and with representatives of the deputy factions.

Vladimir Putin said that at the key moments of history Russia gave support to the friendly Bulgarian people.

He noted that today Russian-Bulgarian relations have been developing in other political and economic conditions. According to him, both in Russia and Bulgaria they understand well that these relations must be free from ideological elements, from the stereotypes and survivals of the past epoch. As Vladimir Putin said, the objective interest of the two countries in cooperation, in the striving for businesslike partnership forms the foundation of these relations today.

The Russian president stressed that Moscow and Sofia are united by the similarity of the ideas of the future of Europe. As he said, Russian-Bulgarian cooperation must productively work for the shaping of a new Europe, stable and prosperous.

As Vladimir Putin said, in Russia they take into account the geopolitical realities of the geographial position of Bulgaria at a "crossroads of the world" among Southern, Eastern and Western Europe. He noted that Moscow is ready for joint work to strengthen stability in this strategically significant region. The head of the Russian state emphasized that Russia counts on a constructive approach in this direction from the Bulgarian side.

Vladimir Putin highlighted the considerable role of the two countries' parliaments in the deepening and development of new Russian-Bulgarian relations. He also stressed that Moscow reckons on further broadening of the interparliamentary dialogue.
