First Russian Off-Roaders for Uruguayan Army

36 naval containers with 186 assembly kits for UAZ off-road vehicles equipped with Polish diesel engines have arrived in Montevideo.

For the first time in the post-Soviet era the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant delivers so many off-road vehicles for the Uruguayan Defense Ministry and to the Latin American market at large. To make it possible Uruguay's military personnel and "Rusoboronexport," Russian Defense Industry Export company, signed a contract preceded by 18 months of negotiations carried out by the plant's office in Montevideo.

Specialists who arrived in Montevideo from Ulyanovsk are supposed to assembly the vehicles using the shipped kits, train drivers and establish a warranty repair service similar to the one in Ulyanovsk. Beside Uruguay, the vehicles will be deployed by Uruguayan peace-keepers in Kongo and Eritrea.
