Japan Ends Economic Sanctions against Ukraine

Japan yesterday announced that it was withdrawing economic sanctions against Ukraine. The sanctions were introduced at the beginning of February on the recommendation of the International Money Laundering Organisation's Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The announcement was confirmed to Rosbalt's correspondent in the Japanese Embassy in Kiev. According to official sources, Tokyo believes that Ukraine has brought its financial legislation in line with the West's main requirements.

Economic sanctions introduced against Ukraine by six countries, including the US, Canada and Great Britain, still remain in place. In the middle of February the Ukrainian parliament ratified a law on fighting money laundering, which had adopted at the insistence of FATF.
