Russian Spravedlivy Rescue Vessel Tows American Motor Ship to Urup

Last night the Russian Spravedlivy rescue vessel (the home port is Vladivostok) successfully towed an American steamer whose main engine malfunctioned, said Vladivostok's rescue centre on Thursday.

The Russian vessel came to rescue after the American ship stopped running in the Bering Sea.

On February 10th-19th, Spravedlivy towed the American vessel. Approaching the Kuril island of Urup, the seamen repaired the engine. The American steamer headed for Japan and the Spravedlivy for the Bering Sea where she is on duty in a fishery expedition.

The American car carrier, registered under the flag of the Marshall islands, is en route between the US Pacific coast and Asian ports. Several thousand cars are on board the vessel now.
