Philip Morris' Russian Plants Increased Cigarette Production by 36% in 2002

In 2002 Philip Morris' Russian enterprises increased their production of cigarettes by 36% to 73 billion. According to Guy Guffers, the director of product management in Russia, Philip Morris Izhora produced 40 billion cigarettes (25 billion in 2001) and Philip Morris Kuban produced 33 billion cigarettes (2 billion in 2001).

The total amount of tax paid by Philip Morris in Russia in 2002 was USD 355.5 million, USD 63.5 million more than in 2001. The company invested over USD 550 million in its two production facilities, of which USD 360 million was invested in Philip Morris Izhora. According to the independent Biznes-Analitika agency, in 2002 the company accounted for 22.4% of the Russian tobacco market, a 4% increase on the previous year. Philip Morris exports 3-4% of its Russian production to Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Moldova, and Kazakhstan.
