A delegation of the Canadian government arrived in the Sverdlovsk Region on an official visit today. Leading the delegation are Political Advisor to the Canadian Prime Minister Ramina Shaw and Second Secretary to the Canadian Ambassador in Russia Erin Dorgan.
As a Rosbalt correspondent was told by the press office of the Sverdlovsk administration, the main aim of the visit is to assess the political and economic situation in the Central Urals and the region's growth potential. The delegation's schedule will include meetings with diplomats as well as local economists and political scientists in Yekaterinburg . They will also visit several large enterprises including the Uralmashzavod industrial plant, Nizhnetagilsky Metallurgical Plant, places of entertainment and culture and universities and colleges.
The delegation will hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister of the Sverdlovsk Region Yuri Osintsev and a meeting with Governor Eduard Rossel is also planned.
This is the first official Canadian visit to the Sverdlovsk Region in the 21st century.
The Americans came to realise that they would have to either leave the region or weaken their presence there. It is Russia that is filling the vacuum now
