Bin Laden Has More Mysterious Allies in Afghanistan

Al-Qaeda has large difficulties, but remains very active still

UN inspectors that have been monitoring the terrorist activity since September 11th of 2001 exposed a piece of curious information at the end of the last year. The report that they prepared mentioned that Al-Qaeda terrorist group may count for the support of about ten thousand activists in the whole world. Bin Laden’s organization has suffered a serious blow, although it does not experience any difficulties with recruiting new terrorists.

To all appearances, Al-Qaeda has been through a lot of troubles recently. However, it still remains a big threat to the world security in global scale. The document runs that Al-Qaeda will keep its ability to act, to recruit more terrorists and to arm them. This will definitely happen without the exchange of information in the world, without the cooperation of police structures, without the complete financial control on the international level. Michael Chandler, who heads the monitoring group, said that Al-Qaeda trains guerrillas still. He stated that the terrorist group set up new military camps in eastern Afghanistan, not far from the Pakistani border. Al-Qaeda cooperates with various national and religious extremist groups that are ready to use terrorist methods in order to achieve their goals.

One of those groups has already let everyone know of its existence. A group of Talibs, called the Secret Army of Mujahideens, started threatening Afghan and Pakistani businessmen, who delivered food and fuel to American troops in the south east of Afghanistan. Afghan Islamic Press news agency reported that offices of several newspaper in the Pakistani city of Peshawar received unusual fax messages. The messages said that all trucks (on their way from Pakistan to American army bases) loaded with supplies and gas would be burnt and drivers would be killed. Terrorists said that they performed at least 50 sorties against the American troops in Kabul, Kandahar, in the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, Nangarhar. They particularly claimed responsibility for the explosion of a bomb near the American embassy in Kabul, for shelling army bases of the international forces in Afghanistan, for an attack of a column of the American military men on the outskirts of Jalalabad.
