Georgian local authorities protest against sale of chemical plant

Authorities of the Rustavi city (Georgia) demand a revision of conditions of the direct sale of the Azot company to the Itera group of companies for $500,000 for repaying Georgia's debts for consumed gas. For example, Rustavi authorities refuse to pass to Itera Azot's social and cultural facilities they evaluate at several million dollars. This is a community center, gyms and a holiday home at the Black Sea. City authorities also demand Itera to determine minimal salaries for Azot's employees in its business plan. The revision of the conditions of the deal is expected to take place jointly with the Georgian Property Ministry on December 31, 2002.
