Interior Minister: 145 Petroleum Thieves Indicted in Chechnya in 2002

In 2002, in Chechnya, 145 were indicted for stealing crude oil and petroleum products. This is according to the statement made today at a press conference by Alexander Chekalin, the Minister of Interior of the Russian Federation. Mr. Chekalin said that, during special operations, 42 mini oil refineries had been found and destroyed, 64 vehicles illegally transporting petroleum products detained, and 240 taps into pipelines stopped. He noted that a total of 156 tonnes of crude oil, engine fuel and lubricants had been confiscated.
