Agreement on laying gas pipeline to Pakistan to be signed this week

An agreement on constructing a gas pipeline through Afghanistan will be signed in Ashkhabad on December 26-27. Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov, Afghan President Khamid Karzai and Pakistani Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali are expected to meet in Ashkhabad to sign a document on constructing the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan gas pipeline, the press service of the Turkmen President reported.

This project envisages the construction of a 1,460 kilometer gas pipeline from the Dovletabat gas field to the Pakistani city of Multan via Kandagar in Afghanistan. The preliminary cost of the project is $2bn. It is not ruled out that at the coming meeting the officials will announce the company, which will head the consortium on laying the gas pipeline.
