Duma official against selling state stakes in profitable companies

The leader of the Narodny Deputat (People's Deputy) faction of the State Duma, Gennady Raikov, stated that he did not support selling state stakes in profitable companies. He made this statement in a conversation with journalists commenting on the auction for selling a stake in the Slavneft Oil and Gas Company.

But "a fact is still a fact, and we have to put up with it," Raikov pointed out. The only thing the State Duma did on time was a "very prompt" adoption of a decree on banning the participation of companies, which had 25 percent and larger stake in them owned by foreign proprietors. "We really feared that some foreign companies could buy the Slavneft stake at this auction; this is why we made this decision," Raikov reported.
