Commodities turnover between Chinese Heilongjiang province and Russian regions rises to $2bln

Trade turnover between the north-eastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang and Russian regions has risen to $2 bln. The province's commodities turnover with Russian regions increased by 45% over 10 months in 2002, compared to the equal period in 2001, reaching $1.92 bln, Harbin's customs department reported.

According to the Harbin custom's information, Russia's share in the total of the province's foreign trade turnover is almost 54%.

Chinese businessmen supply Russian regions with garments and footwear, whereas China imports timber, paper, rolled steel and chemical fertilizers from Russia.

Other provinces are sensibly enhancing trade with Russia too, Chinese experts in foreign trade pointed out. In particular, Russia has become the Hebei province's main importer. Over 8 months the province's commodities export to Russian regions grew almost 45%, exceeding $130 mln. Hebei sells garments, china- and ceramic ware, food and other products to Russia.
