Spanish warships intercepted a North Korean vessel which had been tailed by US intelligence services for weeks, claiming that it was carrying SCUD missiles to Yemen.
According to US authorities which boarded the ship, the 12 SCUD missiles were hidden aboard the cargo ship, which was believed to be heading for Yemen and which was intercepted 950 kilometres off the Horn of Africa.
North Korea has been accused by Washington of engaging in the illegal trading of arms. Last August, the US administration accused Pyongyang of selling missile components to Yemen and imposed sanctions against the North Korean enterprise, the Changwang Sinyong Corporation, for trading in components in medium and long-range missiles.
