Group of armed smugglers seized at Russian-Chinese border

Thursday night border guards have seized a group of armed Chinese and Russian smugglers attempting a caviar deal at the Far Eastern section of the Russian-Chinese border, First Deputy Head of the Far-Eastern Regional Department of the Russian Federal Frontier Service, Lieutenant-General Alexander Danilenko said at a briefing.

According to him, the seizure was part of a meticulous operation carried out on the Russian coast of the Bolshoi Ussurijsky Island. Two Russian citizens were seized while attempting to hand over eight containers with black caviar to a Chinese citizen.

The boxes contained 250 kilograms of caviar worth approximately over several hundred thousand rubles.

The smugglers gave up only after a few warning shots were fired. The detainees were carrying a loaded carbine, ammunition, and knives.
