Russian-German Seminar on Soil Pollution to Open in Saint Petersburg Today

A Russian-German seminar devoted to the problem of soil pollution is opening today in Saint Petersburg. Over two days specialists from the German Ministry of Natural Resources and the German federal department for protection of the environment will hold discussions with Russian specialists on environmental protection legislation in the area of soil protection. Furthermore, participants at the seminar intend to compare Russian and European methods of determining the level of toxins in soil and also methods of evaluating the effects of polluted soil on people's health.

The press office of the Saint Petersburg committee on nature management said that Russian participants include representatives of the regional office of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, the Saint Petersburg committee on nature management, the Saint Petersburg state epidemiological monitoring centre, Vodocanal Saint Petersburg, and scientists and experts in environmental protection.
