Naval Show to Open in St. Petersburg in Summer 2003

A naval show is to be held in St. Petersburg between June 25 and 29, 2003 as one of the main events to mark the city's 300th anniversary. Delegations from 70 countries are expected to take part.

'St. Petersburg is a unique city, which simply must have a naval show,' Anatoly Kotov, the head of the exhibitions and fairs section of the city administration's Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade, told Rosbalt's correspondent. 'St. Petersburg has a naval base, a port, wharfs, and naval training and design institutions'. He added that there are not many naval shows in the world, only those taking place in France, Great Britain, the US, Singapore and Chili, and that the St. Petersburg show would attract particular attention because at the same time as the exhibition there would be demonstrations at the Rzhevka artillery range and an air show at the Pushkin aerodrome, and ships from countries around the world would cast anchor in the harbour.

The naval show will feature all St. Petersburg's firms, research, design and training institutes, and design bureaux which are in any way connected with the navy. Kotov added that 'the naval show is yet one more entry in the annals of St. Petersburg as the maritime capital of the country and of Russia as a naval power'.
