Sverdlovsk governor reports on rise in region's industrial output

The growth in physical volume of production in the Sverdlovsk region in thefirst eight months of this year was 4.5 percent, compared to the volume in2001, Eduard Rossel, governor of the Sverdlovsk region, declared at a jointmeeting with a delegation of the Kaliningrad region. In particular, thegrowth in the metal industry was 1 percent, in the non-ferrous industry 6percent. The Sverdlovsk region's share of Russia's total volume ofproduction of pipelines is from 30 percent to 40 percent. The advance inthe machine building industry was 28 percent. Defense enterprises occupy aconsiderable share in the machine building industry.
