Head of Central Election Commission comments on Krasnoyarsk elections

Alexander Veshnyakov, chairman of the Central Election Commission, issatisfied with the level of organization of the first round of governorelections in the Krasnoyarsk region. Responding to journalists' questionshe pointed out that no serious violations had been registered in theregion. According to him, in the next three days, "more likely onWednesday",the regional election commission will set the date of the secondround. It may be September 22, 2002, he forecasted.Veshnyakov reported the following figures concerning the results of ythefirst round f governor elections in the region: some 47.22 percent ofvoters took part in the elections. Alexander Uss, chairman of the region'sLegislative Assembly, collected 27.64 percent of votes, AlexanderKhloponin, governor of the Taymyr Autonomous Area, got 25.22 percent ,State Duma deputy Sergey Glazyev 21.44 percent, krasnoyarsk Mayor PyotrPimashkov 14.31 percent. Some 4.99 percent votes were against allcandidates. Businessman Artyom Tarasov was supported by 2.8 percent ofvoters and others got less than one percent..
