Sanitary and epidemiological conditions at south Russian resorts steady

Russia's chief sanitary officer has described the situation at south Russian health resorts as solid and said that all spas and sanatoriums there are functioning.

At a news conference at Izvestia's media centre on Tuesday, Gennady Onishchenko, First Deputy Health Minister of Russia and the country's chief sanitary officer, said that water pollution on the Black Sea coast had temporarily put a stop to bathing on five beaches. But "in a week's time the water will clean itself," the deputy minister said.

A general epidemiological situation in southern Russia's areas hit by floods remains steady, Onishchenko said. The rate of infectious diseases among the population corresponds to indicators typical of this season.
