French Company To Explore Bahrain

French company, Companie General de Geo-physique (CGG), has begun searching for oil north of Bahrain, near the long disputed Hawar Island.

The International Court of Justice rejected Qatar's claim over the long-disputed island, a little over a year ago. CGG is undertaking an extensive marine seismic survey on behalf of Bahrain Petroleum Co (Bapco) and Petronas Carigali Bahrain, in Rass Ghumais and the small island of Jaradah, according to an official statement. The project is the result of an agreement Bahrain and Malaysia, which gives Petronas, Malaysia's state-run oil company, the rights to explore for oil in Bahraini waters.
