Another Russian airline enters top 50 on IATA's rating list

Russia's Sibir Airlines (Novosibirsk) has entered the top 50 largestairlines of the world in terms of the number of passengers on domesticroutes on the 2001 rating list of the International Air TransportAssociation (IATA). The airline's Press Service reported to RBC today thatthe passenger turnover of Sibir on domestic routes reached 2.65bnpassenger-kilometers last year. This was the second largest figure inRussia after Aeroflot. Sibir carried 1.08m passengers in the first six months of 2002. This numberexceeded the corresponding figure for the first six months of 2001 by57.6%. The passenger turnover of Sibir rose by 56.3% in the first sixmonths of 2002 compared to that in the corresponding period of 2001 andreached 3.14bn passenger-kilometers. The number of flights increased by 44%in January-June of this year compared to that in the first six months of2001. The airline's timetable includes 75 regular flights, of which 12flights were introduced at the beginning of 2002. The revenues to theairline amounted to RUR4.63bn ($146.7m) in 2001, and the sum ofbalance-sheet losses reached RUR275m ($8.71m)..
