Kashmir: Dialogue

Separatists to meet Indian government for talks

The diplomatic pressure placed on India and Pakistan by the international community to find a solution for the crisis in Kashmir appears to be producing results, with a meeting planned this month between the Islamic Kashmiri separatists and the Indian government.

The appeal by the Indian government for dialogue with the separatists was well received by the group Liberation Front for Jammu and Kashmir, which stated that it is “ready for unconditional discussions after 22nd August”.

There will be elections in Indian Kashmir on 24th September, which the Moslem population is expected to boycott. Meanwhile in Pakistan, religious violence continues with attacks against Christians, part of a strategy by radical Islamist groups to attack soft targets.
