Arab League against attack on Iraq

The Arab League has expressed its “absolute rejection” of a military strike on Iraq, calling the venture “dangerous and unwise”.

The official spokesperson for the Arab League, Hisham Youssef, expressed his support for Iraq and backed the decision to recall the chief of the UN Weapons Inspection team (UNMOVIC), Hans Blix, to Baghdad. He said he hoped that talks would restart between Baghdad and the UNO and that this would lead to the lifting of sanctions.

In a press conference, Hisham Youssef declared that the Arab League rejects US military threats against Iraq, calling it a “dangerous and unwise” decision which would affect the stability of the region.

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa is fighting a diplomatic battle around the world on behalf of Iraq to try to resolve the current stand-off by diplomatic means.
