Australia: Biggest Export Cotract Ever

China has awarded an Australian consortium a 25-year multibillion dollar natural gas supply contract. This was announced Thursday by Prime Minister John Howard.

Howard said in a statement that Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji told him that the Northwest Shelf Venture consortium had been chosen as the sole supplier for the contract, which is worth up to 25 billion Australian dollars (US$13.42 billion) in export income.

The contract is Australia's biggest-ever trade deal, the government said.
