Cross falls down from dome of Sea Cathedral in Kronstadt

A cross fell down from the dome of the Sea Cathedral in Kronstadt (St. Petersburg's suburb). The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, August 7th, said a duty official of the administration of Kronstadt district.

The builders, involved in construction works at the Sea cathedral, attempted to erect the cross in its place with the help of a helicopter. However, the attempt was a failure and the cross fell down, partially damaging the roof. No one suffered, but the cross was destroyed, said the duty official.

The Sea Cathedral was laid down at the highest place of the Kotlin Island on the instructions of Emperor Nicholas II to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Russian fleet in 1903.
