Caspian Sea flotilla march enters its conclusive stage on Thursday

This Thursday the Caspian Sea flotilla march entered its conclusive stage. Marine border guards are practising the joint actions of search and rescue groups of the Caspian Sea marine infantry brigade and the Astrakhan border detachment. As the press-service of the Russian Frontier Service's North Caucasian regional department reports, the units have been assigned the task to carry out a coordinated search, find and destroy the bases of terrorists and weapons caches, and also to cut short the channels of their delivery in hard-to-access islands of the Caspian Sea.

The press-service further noted that prior to that the tactical group of high-speed escort vessels of the Astrakhan marine brigade patrolled the northern part of the Caspian Sea to ensure the deployment of the fleet's forces. One of the escort ships arrived in the area of the Astra stationary drilling platform 50 miles off the island of Chechen and placed it under its control.

The exercises involving the Caspian Sea border guards are being held simultaneously with the discharge of their daily duties to protect marine bio-resources, reveal and cut short the channels of drug and weapons trafficking across the state border in the area of the Caspian Sea.
