Libyan Oil Attracts Belarus

A delegation of the National Oil Company of Libya arrived in Belarus on Wednesday on an official visit.

The Foreign Ministry of Belarus announced that the aim of the visit was to 'determine the future of Belarus-Libya cooperation in the oil sector.' The Libyan delegation intends to assess the capability of Belarussian enterprises which specialize in oil and gas prospecting, extraction and refining as well as repairing oil wells. Belarus is hoping that this visit will enable Belarussian enterprises to take part in the modernisation of the Libyan oil-refining industry.

According to the Foreign Ministry, commodity turnover between Belarus and Libya for the first nine months of 2002 totaled USD 30,000 (export to Libya - USD 4,000, import to Belarus- USD 26,000). Exports to Libya from Belarus consisted mainly of cars and car parts. Belarus imported oil-refining products.
