According to Schroeder, Bush is not Hitler - 21 September, 2002 - News

Has the US President not deserved to be called so?

German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has sent a letter to the US President, apologizing for the statement of German justice minister Herta Deubler-Gmelin (SDPG). The essence of the Herta Deubler-Gmelin statement is that George Bush, while wanting to divert US citizens from internal problems and calling to war with Iraq, carries out the policy with the fuehrer methods. According to the justice minister, “this is the classical tactics. The same tactics were followed by Hitler.” The statement of Deubler-Gmelin was immediately published at first by regional, and later – by federal mass media and caused a sensation.

Of course, representatives of opposition bloc CDU/CSU demanded the justice minister resignation. According to them, Deubler-Gmelin seriously damaged Germany’s prestige. Therefore, the minister discharge is the smallest thing chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has to do to better the situation.

Schroeder decided to please both sides: he sent an apologizing letter to Bush and spoke twosome with the too talkative minister. The White House certainly will not quarrel with Schroeder because of thoughtless statements of some minister, all the more on the threshold of the election, in which Gerhard Schroeder will most likely win, whose rating is much higher than that one of his opponent Edmund Steuber.
