The All-Russian conference "Development of Folk Crafts and Trades" opened in Tomsk (West Siberia) on Thursday. It is held under the aegis of the Russian Ministry of Culture.
The press-service of the Administration of the Tomsk Region reported that guests from 22 towns representing 12 Russian regions have come to Tomsk to exchange experience in preserving traditional handicrafts and trades.
The conference will be open for three days during which its participants will be able to get acquainted with the history of the life of Tomsk old-timers in the folklore museum in the town of Seversk, and will visit the children's studio Obraz.
At present a regional mobile exhibition "Siberian Handicrafts" is open in the regional art museum. On display are old national costumes, articles made of birch bark and wood chips, articles carved out of bone and horn, as well as embroideries and bead-woven trinkets.
