The opening ceremony of the Year of Literature took place at the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Drama Theatre named after Maxim Gorky.
"Literature is a versatile tool that unites all nationalities. Above all, this is a moral potential that will not let us become spiritually poor. We must foster a healthy, well-educated generation. It is the spiritual potential that will make Russia a great country. This is a victorious potential," the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Valery Shantsev said.
Awards for successfully implemented creative projects to motivate young people to read books and preserve their native language were given to literary festival organizer Alexey Yablokov and Doctor of Philology, Professor of Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N. I. Lobachevsky, Elena Marinova. The winners of the regional contest "Creativity Born in Me" Svetlana Kuklina and Vadim Martynov, as well as the winners of the regional stage of the All-Russian School Olympiad in Literature among seniors, Ekaterina Kuznetsova, Varvara Pikuleva and Daria Sumin received special gifts.
The head of the region presented keys to mobile auto clubs to the heads of departments of culture of several territories of the region.
"I am pleased to present auto clubs to our territories. They come to remote places, where they arrange meetings and concerts. As a result, even the smallest and most remote settlements to stay in touch with cultural life," said Valery Shantsev.
