President Meets Cabinet to Discuss Issue of Kaliningrad Region

A regular meeting between the Russian President and cabinet ministers was dedicated to the issue of the Kaliningrad region (the Russian enclave on the Baltic Sea coast).

Mr. Putin proposed that participants in the event discuss problems related to the co-operation between Russia and the European Union (EU) paying particular attention to "human and cargo traffic" after the EU had enlarged.

The Russian leader said that on October 22nd, Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov of Russia would hold a meeting in Brussels. The agenda will include such issues as social and economic development of the region. According to Mr. Putin, the centrepiece of the event is the development of the regional transport infrastructure, in particular, ferryboat communication.
