Russian President: Means Allocated for Strengthening of State Border Must be Spent Efficiently Especially in South

Russian President Vladimir Putin conducted a meeting with heads of power departments on Monday. Issues concerning strengthening of the state border were touched upon during the meeting.

Vladimir Putin stressed that he had already pointed out the necessity to elaborate a draft for strengthening of the state border. The Russian President emphasized that "appropriate resources are required for this, especially in the South".

"I think, the expenses are not high but they are justified," Vladimir Putin said. "It is important to spend them efficiently and optimally." Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin, Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Nikolai Patrushev, First Deputy FSB Director Vladimir Pronichev and Director of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service Konstantin Totsky participated in the meeting.

The Russian President instructed the Russian Federal Border Guard Service Director, the Russian Defense Minister and the FSB Director to work out measures to provide additional security of the state border at a meeting with heads of the Russian power departments in the middle of September in Sochi.

Vladimir Putin gave such instructions because terrorists made numerous attempts to get to Russian territory from the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia.

When speaking at the meeting in Sochi, the Russian President declared that "Russia follows its international obligations, respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states but demands the same towards Russia."
