Magadan region to subsidize air transport

Authorities of the Magadan region believe air travel should become more affordable to the population of the remote land. "We take every effort to improve transport accessibility for residents of the region," Governor Vladimir Pecheny said. One should subsidize air transportation and develop other types of transport.

"The problem of transport for Russia, taking into account the territories that our country has,  is a relevant problem, of course, - Mikhail Marchenko, a member of the Federation Council Committee for Federative Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs told Pravda.Ru. - Probably, the most convenient and less costly type of transport is air transport. This is especially important for residents of the Far East and Siberia. I think that it would be reasonable for the state to subsidize air transportation to make the movement of people across the country easier."

In the Magadan region, as many as 13,000 passengers have been transported on domestic air routes this year. The regional budget subsidizes both air and motor transportation.

"What can the authorities do if there is no communication between settlements in regions? The only thing they can do is to facilitate their development! If private motor companies are unable to conduct transportation at affordable prices, then one has to subsidize them," Valery Zubov, a member of the State Duma Committee for Transport said.
