Hurricane causes calamity to Khabarovsk territory

The hurricane gale and abundant snowfall which hit Khabarovsk, capital of Khabarovsk Territory (Russian Far East) on Sunday and Monday brought out of action eleven electrical sub-stations, leaving 344 buildings and apartment houses without electricity, 32 houses without heating and hot water. RIA Novosti learned this from the Khabarovsk mayor's office.

According to the mayor's office, on Monday the snowfall and ice interrupted the work of normal public transport. The wind broke trees, with many falling on electric lines and on roads. Medical first aid stations note an abundance of calls to people on roads.

The hurricane has hit the southern part of Khabarovsk Territory. Electricity has been switched off at livestock-breeding farms, and telephone communications have been ruptured with many remote villages.
