International Experts Discuss Russian Energy Policy at Vladivostok Conference

The international conference Asia-Pacific realities, perspectives and problems of the 21st century opened today in Vladivostok. More than 70 experts from the USA, Japan, Korea, Thailand and six regions of the Russian Federation are taking part. According to conference organizers, the main theme of the conference will be economic globalisation and in particular Russia's energy policy. Many of the participants believe that Russia will be able to build oil and gas pipelines in the north-eastern area of Asia within the next 10 years. The supply route will depend on economic factors and the demands of foreign buyers. Russia could potentially supply the whole of north-eastern Asia with every possible energy source: natural gas, oil, coal and electricity.

As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, many experts believe that the conference could help to develop a community of experts which is able to discuss problems of international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region at non-governmental level.
