Kaliningrad Veterans Protest Against ‘German Expansion’

Russian veterans asked authorities to prohibit the construction of a German military graveyard in the city

The veterans of the Kaliningrad enclave demand a moratorium on the construction of the German military graveyard in the city. The decree mentions that Germany is not abiding by its obligations regarding the exchange of information about the fates of Soviet soldiers, victims and about the sites where they were buried.

During a period of ten years, the German archives did not answer even one request from the people of Kaliningrad who are working on a memorial book of Soviet victims. The veterans of Kaliningrad asked the local authorities to impose a moratorium on the construction of the memorial graveyard in Kaliningrad. The veterans asked for a period of six months, until all questions regarding violations of the agreement between Russia and Germany are cleared up. The agreement deals with the issue of the maintenance and care of military graves. Otherwise, the veterans will use their right to denounce the decree, which was issued by the regional administration. The decree allows for the allotment of plots of land for the construction of German graveyards.
