Precarious Humanitarian Situation in Ivory Coast

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OHCA) has warned that the humanitarian situation in Ivory Coast is showing signs of developing into a “large-scale crisis”.

A government crackdown after the recent rebel activity has led to shanty towns in the capital, Abidjan, being demolished, and their residents ordered back to the neighbouring countries from where they came. This has caused widespread displacement, due to the fact that the numbers of migrant workers is said to be nearly 4 million, according to UN sources.
