Lookout for barge in Bering Strait underway

On Saturday search for a self-propelled barge with 5 people on board that had disappeared in the Bering Strait on November 3 was resumed.

Mikhail Zivilov, Head of the Main Department for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Chukot autonomous district, reported that on November 8 a message was received that pointed to the barge's whereabouts as the Bay of Providence, village of Yanrakynot. An additional check found out that was another barge.

Mikhail Zivilov recalled that two Vostok-039 barges owned by agricultural manufacturers' enterprise "Zapolyarye", left the village of Laurentius on Nov.2. On November 3, they reached the Bering Strait, where, in fog and heavy snowfall, lost each other. On the 6th of November, one barge came to the village of Inchuon, while the other failed to. The lost barge contained 800 liters of Diesel fuel and food for 3-4 days.

On Saturday search was resumed in a reinforced mode. All ships around have been notified, as well as aviation and the US Coast Guard. Local fishermen, deer shepherds, coast guards are taking part in the search along the shore.
