Railway station in Nizhny Novgorod to be renovated

The Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and JSC RZD (Russian Railways) signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of railway transport for 2012-2014. The project for the reconstruction of the railway station was unveiled during the signing ceremony.

The project for the reconstruction of the railway station was developed by specialists of Nizhegorodzheldorproekt (Nizhny Novgorod Railways Projects) Industrial Association. It will be carried out in two stages. The cost of the first one is - 1 billion 300 million rubles, whereas the second one costs - 3.5 billion rubles.

The first phase, which is to be launched later this year, provides for the reconstruction of the building within the existing boundaries of construction. Fire and transport safety will be improved, the railway station will be adjusted for physically challenged groups of the population. Energy-saving technologies will be applied for the modernization of engineering networks.

The project also includes the construction and reconstruction of three waiting rooms at the station, the construction of the inspection zone for the passengers of Sapsan high-speed trains, and the construction of the underground passage under the railroad tracks.

The second phase of the project includes: the design and construction of the state-of-the-art transport hub (to link the station complex with the metro bridge), and the construction of the multilevel parking, FederalPress reports.
